Cape Henlopen State Park for Thanksgiving
The Lorax has a sister who lives in Lewes, DE. It is a charming little town snuggled up against Rehoboth Beach. We spent Turkey Day with his sister, and may I say, she makes the best darned stuffing I have ever eaten? NOM!
There is a state park there that we had launched from a couple of times years ago. The water in the "Harbor of Refuge" is quiet, large parts of it are shallow, and generally is kind of (yawn) unremarkable. The beach is lovely, the water is clean, but flat. Because of this flatness we had never thought to return to this location.
Recently Paula, a capable paddler-instructor in our area, mentioned she goes there to surf long boats. I was literally, "no, really?" She told me that the Point, the Cape, has a pretty reliable break. Well, now, we never went out on the ocean side of the park. I was not a particularly brave novice paddler and we had not returned since I gained skill and confidence.
Black Friday, rather than hunt down deals for things we did not need anyway, we saddled up and headed over to the Park as early in the morning as we could muster. Rather than blathering on about what we found I am going to post a couple of videos and some photos. I think my dear reader would rather see those anyway!

The above link is to a 10 minute short the Lorax compiled. Work safe and all that.
Then there's this much shorter vid of me, also work safe:

And some stop motion silliness of the Lorax:

Saturday we hung around the Harbor, poking along the beach and generally doing a House Envy Tour. That is when the Lorax shot the vid of me rolling, and I shot the stop motion piece. The day was profoundly over cast and moody. But we were happy to relax and just paddle.
We will return to the break. Absolutely. And we'll bring some buds next time.
