Yawning and stretching Monday morning I was pretty sure it was still winter outside. After all, the cats had me convinced it was too cold to leave bed. They were holding my covers down all purring and soft, so warm. This made it hard to convince myself to get going.
Eventually the bed and I were parted. My chores were not taking care of themselves.
Upon exiting my cocoon I stepped out to appraise the mess that winter had left behind. This week getting the front and back yards cleaned up is front and center on my list.
The first flowers in the beds had finally popped open. These low little buds signaled the beginning of the spring cleanup. I got right to work. I have moved and spread many bags of mulch around back. I raked leaves and collected dead fall from our 12 or so trees in the back. And the dogs have spent all these hours outside with me, soaking up the sun.
It feels a little like a light bulb has turned on. I am glad to see spring.

The Reservoir is muddy brown from the spring rains |
With spring my regular Wednesday club paddles returned. Even though the Occoquan Reservoir is a tame stretch of water, I look forward to the many days I will spend time there. Some people run on tread mills, or use an exercise machine. I use the Reservoir the same way.
Now I am bushed. The cats welcome me back to bed.
